The story of Gys

Organic, plant-based and gluten-free comfort food in Utrecht.

About Gys

When Gijs launched the idea in 2014 to open a restaurant that would serve only organic dishes with a focus on vegetarian and vegan food, many people wondered if it would actually work. Fast forward to today, and we are incredibly happy that Gys has grown into two vibrant locations—on the Voorstraat and the Amsterdamsestraatweg in Utrecht—where people come together not only to enjoy delicious plant-based and organic food, but also to experience that sustainable and tasty food truly go hand in hand!

For us, sustainability goes beyond what is on the plate. The entire restaurant is permeated by this philosophy. From the furniture made from recycled materials to the eco-friendly paint on the walls, every detail contributes to our goal of leaving the smallest possible ecological footprint.

Carefree enjoyment

We believe everyone should be able to enjoy dining out without a single worry. That’s why all our dishes are plant-based, delicious for everyone who visits us, and kind to the planet! Our ingredients are organic and, whenever possible, locally sourced and seasonal. We update our menu twice a year, which helps us keep our environmental impact low and gives you a great reason to come back each season! 😉

Our kitchen is entirely gluten-free. We hold the ‘Zorgeloos Glutenvrij’ (Carefree Gluten-Free) certification from the NCV (Dutch Celiac Association), making us a safe environment for those with celiac disease or a gluten intolerance, something we are incredibly proud of!

Careers

At Gys, we believe that a sustainable world starts with how we treat each other and the planet. We are building a workplace where you can develop yourself, earn a good salary, and truly make a difference.

Whether you work in the kitchen, in service, or behind the scenes: everyone contributes.

Our partners

Everything you eat and drink at Gys is homemade. The products we use are certified organic and preferably produced locally. Some items are a bit more difficult to make yourself, such as fries, wine, soft drinks, or beer. For these, we collaborate with entrepreneurs who, just like us, consider the impact of doing business on the planet important.
